Name Your Proof (Spellcrafting, Part I)

This is my favorite part of spellwork.

A spell starts with a sparkle, an inkling of an idea, a pull toward a new path, person, or way of life. The sparkle turns into a spark of intention. Follow the spark.

The intention tells the energetic universe what you want. Intention defines the “what” of the spell. Write it down. Do it.

Then comes the materials and the words of the spell. What epic poetry or cocktail-napkin haiku do you speak to the universe, how do you wake the old deities or to the new with words? Which materials will you use? What phase of the moon? Feel into the things, words, and Wheel that weave most naturally with your intention.

Now, imagine how you want to raise energy to let the universe know that you are here! See me, Energy Beings! Dance, sing, bang pot & pans. chant and stomp, scream-cry. We’ve done it all. Choose the way that feels most natural and aligned to your vision. Raise the energetic roof!

Name Your Proof

How will you know when the Old Ones crawl out from the Earth to deliver what you asked for on a bone-crusted platter?

Now, my favorite part: NAME YOUR PROOF. How will you know when the spell is complete? How will you know when the old ones crawl out from the earth to deliver what you asked for on a bone-crusted platter? You imagine your proof and name it. Maybe it’s keys to a new house, putting on a shiny vanity plate on your new car, maybe it’s a feeling of contentment watching the kids play in the yard, maybe it’s an interview for your dream job or signing a book contract or maybe, or maybe, or maybe … name it now.

This is how it starts. Now, you wait. Wait for the moon, the crossroad to appear, wait for the time and place, to gather your materials. Don’t lose heart, magic ones, all the work you put in so far, pays out and the pay is gold. Just reading this article adds energy to your spell.

And so it is!
